The weather has taken a turn here in the UK, and that autumn feeling has definitely arrived! Time to get the hoodies out, put the sun cream away and start thinking about things to do this Halloween season.

Here’s a list of 10 Halloween and autumn attractions that I love and would recommend this season!

1. Alton Towers Scarefest

Scare factor: 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 / 🎃 – Ideal for both thrill seekers and young children. Something for everyone!

Alton Towers Scarefest, in my opinion at least, is the best all-rounder when it comes to Halloween events in the UK.

With the 5 terrifying scare mazes, including the new maze – Panic – and the various spooky family-oriented trick or treat attractions and shows for young children, Scarefest really does have something for everyone.

All of that on top of an already exciting day at one of the country’s top theme parks, you can ride some of the UK’s best rides in the dark, and try the new ‘Curse at Alton Manor’ ride.

You just can’t go wrong with a day at Alton Towers, especially during Scarefest where the park comes alive.

2. Thorpe Park Fright Nights

Scare factor: 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 – Ideal for thrill hunters.

Thorpe park changes after dark.

The award-winning Fright Nights is back, this year with 3 extreme scare mazes, 2 scare zones and 2 shows.

Fright Nights offers a great evening of terrifying scare attractions, as well as the benefit of enjoying a day at Thorpe Park, with the chance to ride some of the UK’s best rollercoasters in the dark thanks to the 9PM closing time.

If you’re looking for scares and thrills, Fright Nights is the event for you.

3. Tully’s Shocktober Fest

Scare factor: 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 – Ideal for thrill hunters.

Speaking of thrills and scares, Tully’s Farm have become experts at providing just that over the last 25 years.

The farm’s annual event, Shocktober Fest, runs during the evenings and in to the night throughout October, and this year offers thrill hunters a range of scares, including the revamped haunted hayride, several shows and of course multiple extreme scare mazes.

With live music and roaming actors all evening long, there is always a proper Halloween festival vibe at this event which some of the larger events struggle to achieve.

Tulley’s have been in this business for decades, and really know what they’re doing – if you’re up for a fright I can’t recommend Shocktoberfest enough.

4. Fear Scream Park, Avon Valley

Scare factor: 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 – Ideal for thrill hunters

Awarded as the UK’s best Scream Park last year, Fear is back open again most evenings throughout October, with 5 truly terrifying scare attractions.

With attractions this scary, guests must be 16+ to enter. Fear is truly for the hardcore scare fans and those who are up for a fright.

5. Mercat Ghost Tour, Edinburgh

Scare factor: 🎃🎃🎃 – A little scary, but ideal for all the family.

Candle-lit guided ghost tours are available in Scotland’s capital, giving you the chance to discover Edinburgh’s dark side.

This is a great opportunity to have some fun, learn something new, and do something a little different in this beautiful city. An ideal spooky thing to do this Halloween!

Check out their website to see tours available.

6. Terror Mountain Wales

Scare factor: 🎃🎃🎃🎃 – Ideal for thrill seekers.

Offering 5 nerve-shredding live action horror mazes, Terror Mountain is a terrifying Halloween event just outside Aberystwyth in Wales.

As Wales’ best Halloween scream park, it makes an ideal scary night out to get you in that Halloween spirit!

7. Howl’o’ween at Chessington World of Adventures

Scare factor: 🎃🎃 – Ideal for families.

For those younger adventurers and family groups, not quite up to the horrors of the country’s scream parks, Howl’o’ween is the perfect spooky Halloween attraction that combines an already great day at Chessington World of Adventures with an evening of spooky entertainment.

The 2 live action scare mazes aimed at younger thrill seekers and the multiple shows on offer, alongside the chance to ride the rides at dusk, makes for a great time for all the family.

8. Warner Bros Studio Tour – the making of Harry Potter – Dark Arts Festival

Scare factor: 🎃 – Ideal for everyone, including young children.

Around the month of October, the studio tour celebrates the Dark Arts festival. The usual iconic film sets are present as normal, but the setting is a little spookier for Halloween, with a few Halloween additions.

The tour has a number of new halloween additions throughout, including cobwebs and several hundred pumpkins.

The Great Hall is fully decorated for Halloween with pumpkins suspended from the ceiling.

Defence against the dark arts and wand combat lessons are in full swing in the build up to Halloween at the Studio Tour – demonstrations and interactive wand activities are available to try.

The tickets sell out for the tour several weeks in advance, and you can’t even get in to the car park without a ticket. Be sure to book your tickets and time slot as far in advance as you can to avoid disappointment.

9. Legoland Fireworks Spectacular

Scare factor: 🎃 – Ideal for everyone, including young children.

A fantastic family-friendly day out that kids will love, topped off with a spectacular fireworks show at the end of the night – what better way to celebrate bonfire night!

10. Alton Towers Fireworks

Scare factor: 🎃 – Ideal for everyone of all ages.

Yes, yes I know, I’ve already mentioned Alton Towers on this article. What can I say, I like Alton Towers!

You’ll struggle to find a better fireworks show than Alton’s end of season spectacular. I stand by my comments from before, it’s better than Disney’s fireworks.

If you enjoy rides and you like fireworks, you’ve got to go to this event. It’s truly amazing, and you won’t regret it.

Beware, this is popular and tickets do sell out, meaning it is always very busy. Check out my guide for tips on how to get the most out of your visit to the Alton Towers Fireworks.

If you have any other suggestions for attractions to visit this Halloween, or you’ve been to any of these, please share in the comments!
